"I made a New Year's resolution to commit one day a month to volunteer at BBR. 2009 is my 4th year!
I am always encouraging others to give whole blood and platelets. I have faithfully donated blood every 8-10 weeks over the past 4 years, as well as donated my time and energy - and I did all of it lovingly. Thank you for allowing me to be part of a great local organization."
- Nancy Adams, Donor and Volunteer -

"My favorite part of volunteering is keeping the high school kids supplied with their post-donation 'treats', seeing them show their pleasure in making it through without a reaction, and encouraging them to give again at the next drive. I feel I relate well to the HS donor population, since I have two teenage grandsons. My most satisfying role is being able to help the BBR staff in the recovery process when a small minority of students experience a post-donation reaction."

We offer very flexible schedules. This is a wonderful way to connect with the community.
What's involved?

- Serve refreshments to donors
- Monitor donors after they donate
- Work 4-7 hour shifts
Mobile drives mean plenty of opportunities for you to help near or far
Blood Bank of the Redwoods coordinates more than 50 mobile drives a month in Sonoma, Lake and Mendocino counties. The majority of these drives require a Volunteer Host to work in the Mobile Canteen.
The Canteen Host is responsible for watching over donors and alerting a nurse in the unlikely event that a donor has a reaction. The Host is also responsible for serving juice, cookies and snacks to the donors.
Where do I find the time?
The hours you spend volunteering will depend entirely on your availability. Shifts can begin as early as 7am, end as late as 9pm, and range from 4 to 7 hours depending on the location you choose. Volunteers are a vital part of our team!
Every day we have a need for volunteers on our mobile drives throughout Sonoma, Lake and Mendocino counties.
